The passenger ship Mirabelle, whose arrival was expected last Thursday, has still not appeared on the horizon. Sailors are growing increasingly worried about the ship's whereabouts; some are even afraid to set sail for fear of curses. Experts interviewed by the SuperCity Times journalists, however, have offered competing explanations. The version that the ship veered off course is refuted by sailors. They claim that Captain Frederick Thorne and his crew were well-acquainted with their course and would not have strayed from it under any circumstances. They also made the same point regarding the storm version: the sea along the Mirabelle path is calm and even rains are rare there. Some of the messages sent to our office included wild speculation, such as a magical curse or monsters from the ocean. But we insist that people shouldn't believe in superstitions and should instead wait for the police to look into the matter.
But the following day and the following year, the ship failed to make an appearance in port. Over time, rumours began to circulate among the sailors that a strange glow could be seen from the city port at night. However, they were all forgotten after over a century had gone by.
The ship, on the other hand, was not completely forgotten. Even today, the city librarian remembers her. Something in the history of the Mirabelle seemed strange to him. She had a first-rate crew and the greatest captain Frederick Thorne. The rumour mill had it that an heir of a famous family of archaeologists, who had just unearthed some cursed treasure, was among the missing.
The old librarian was not sure that mysticism was involved in the Mirabelle case. Maybe the reporters were merely fabricating the story? Or was he already inventing something to do at work out of boredom? However, one evening, while walking with his grandson, the librarian saw something unusual.
- ‘Look, Grandpa! What's that over there?’, the boy pointed at the evening sea.
- ‘Let me adjust my glasses... Let's see…’, Grandpa looked up at the sea and gasped. He couldn't believe his eyes. He had seen that ship in the city newspapers! That same missing sailboat! ‘That's... That's the Mirabelle…’
- ‘That's the same ship you were telling me about? The one that disappeared a hundred years ago?’
- ‘It seems so... But that can't be true!’
- ‘What if a sea monster ate it and it became ghostly?’, the boy smiled. It seemed like the ship didn't scare him at all.
- ‘Maybe... I'm ready to believe that too. Let's go home, kid. In the morning I'll ask the Captain, maybe he can go out to sea and see what's going on there.’
What really happened to Mirabelle? You'll soon be able to find out! When the time comes, go with the Captain on the hunt for the strange ship and find out why it went missing!
